Overview
The ProActive DBA Archive Server Option provides long-term storage and retrieval of flat file data captured by SQL Capture, TimeLine and Database Auditor.
Major benefits:
- Centralized storage of flat file data for some or all of your monitored servers
- Stores files in a hierarchy by date, for fast retrieval and easy maintenance
- Seamless integration with the Console
Features
By default, ProActive DBA monitoring products capture SQL/login data and other monitored data to a set of data files (flat files) on the server’s local filesystem or a remote filesystem such as an NFS share or NAS system.
The Archive Server Option greatly simplifies management of these monitored data files by letting you store and manage files from many servers in one centralized location.
You define an Archive Agent to warehouse the data files, and then configure each desired server to use the Archive Agent. The server periodically closes off each flat file it has generated, and sends it to the Archive Agent using a proprietary protocol.
The Archive Agent stores the files in a hierarchy by date and time, for rapid retrieval and easy maintenance.
When you use SQL Capture or TimeLine to load data for a particular date/time range, the ProActive DBA Console automatically and seamlessly loads data from the Archive Agent, even when files are in transit to it from the capture Agent.
